One of the places where I love shopping online is on Aliexpress website. It's a Chinese website that sells goods internationally and people from most parts of the world including many African countries can buy from them.

After I've placed my order on Aliexpress, the next step is for me to wait to reaceive it. It takes a few days to weeks for the seller to send it to me and the time varies depending on the type of shipping service I've opted for. At most times, I've chosen their postal mail service as it's the most affordable and I'm buying them as a retailer.

After the seller has forwarded my package to Nigeria, one of the things I normally get from my order history is an alphanumeric tracking number that looks like this "RF520879338SG". I normally use the tracking number on the website of the popular local postal service in Nigeria called NIPOST. NIPOST's website has a means of tracking foreign packages that have entered their postal system. If the seller has sent it via postal mail from China and it arrives Nigeria, it gets into their postal system and arrives at a nearby postal office. It soon gets listed in NIPOST's database such that users can know when it arrives at a postal location close to the delivery address they used to buy stuff with on Aliexpress.

I've bought a lot of things from Aliexpress and have received most of them from my local NIPOST office. It's one of the reasons why I still use NIPOST. It's a bit sad that in the past many people used to use NIPOST for sending letters to their families and friends using stamps and handwritten letters as this has mostly been taken over by online email services like Yahoo Mail and Gmail.

Nowadays, Nigerians still use NIPOST to send packages affordably throughout the nation and even internationally. I think it's mostly used for business purposes nowadays than the casual letters we used to write in those days.

So, I get to know when my order has arrived Nigeria by checking out my order history and clicking on tracking. To confirm it, I also make use of the tracking number on the NIPOST website since they are the monopoly now a long as local postal mail is concerned.
