In Africa, the dry season is known to be a period of low rainfall and increasing heat from the sun. During this period, it gets hotter than normal and people need to cool off by bathing in streams or taking a cold shower while others just stay cool under the air condition.

One of the ways this affects us in Africa is in our dressing as no sane African would wear sweaters or a heavy coat during the dry season unless he is inside an air conditioned office. During the dry season, people tend to drink more water to avoid dehydration and hope to get relief from the scorching heat.

The type of clothes I love wearing during the dry season are clothes that are light, free and airy rather than the ones that are heavy and thick or insulating. My best fabric is cotton and if it's 100% cotton, it gets better. I can also make do with fabric that's made of a mix of cotton and polyester. I also prefer short sleeve to long sleeve because you need to get all the cooling you can.

In the USA, people dress lighter during the summer because it's no longer cold and it's warmer. That's about how it is in tropical Africa during the dry season as people need to dress in a way that would help them cool off rather than getting hotter and so cotton clothes are best for me.

The best time to sleep during the dry season is during the night rather than in the afternoons as it's much cooler as the sun has gone down. It's also good to sleep in a pajama that is made of cotton fabric.
