Don't mix old milk with new milk

My advice to people who love to buy milk from retail stores is to not mix the new milk with your old milk. It just doesn't work well.

Every packaged milk has it's expiry date and the more it approaches it's expiry date, the more it loses it's freshness and when you make the mistake of adding your newly purchased milk to the old one, the whole milk now tastes like old milk as they say, a little leaven leavens the whole lump - Just keep them in their separate containers.

My mother made this mistake of adding old powdered milk to the new one I purchased and now I find it hard to drink that milk again because it all looks old and expired. It just doesn't work the same or taste the same and it's even worse if the milk is expired and you now mix it with new milk as it would ruin the whole milk.

Well, the old powdered milk which my mother used was already approaching it's expiry date and I noticed that it was no longer dissolving well in water even when in hot water and I myself personally stopped drinking that old milk. I now had to buy a new powdered milk which was fresher and dissolved readily in water rather than floating. My mum made the mistake of adding the old one with the new one and the whole milk now looks expired as it hardly dissolved well, even when in hot water.

It would probably be ok if you were mixing two milk packages that have the same expiry date and were both fresh but it's never a good decision to mix the 2 if they don't have the same freshness.

It's also not a good idea to ever drink milk that is expired or hardly dissolves in water since it may give you health problems. It's even better to drink freshly made milk than packaged milk but we just manage those packaged ones since freshly made ones are not always available. However, it's even worse to still take expired milk when you should throw it away.
